England’s victorious Lionesses delighted the streets of London on Tuesday afternoon, by parading the European Championship trophy they dramatically retained at the weekend.

Sarina Wiegman’s squad, who beat Spain on penalties following a tense 1-1 draw in Basel on Sunday, appeared just after midday on an open-top bus in Westminster.

Around 50,000 fans had gathered to celebrate the successful players, including Manchester United Women’s Grace Clinton, Maya Le Tissier and Ella Toone.

Former Reds Alex Greenwood (Manchester City), Lauren James (Chelsea) and Alessia Russo (Arsenal) were also among the group.

The bus travelled along The Mall, London’s famous processional route, from Trafalgar Square to the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace.

There, the Central Band of the Royal Air Force played on a stage, before England’s best moments from the Women’s Euro 2025 tournament were shown on a big screen.

Wiegman then led the squad out onto the stage to rapturous applause from the huge crowd, and performances from musicians Burna Boy and Heather Smalls followed, plus numerous interviews with the victorious players.

Speaking to the Lionesses media team, Toone said:

“We know that we have amazing fans back home, but when you are in Switzerland you are in your own bubble. It’s amazing to see people supporting us.

“I am absolutely buzzing. Everyone is buzzing. Things like this don’t come around every day in football, so you have got to enjoy it.”

Ella was once again a key figure in the Lionesses’ success, just as she was three years ago in the last edition of the tournament, when the United forward scored a sensational opening goal in England’s 2-1 victory over Germany in the final.

Toone netted twice in the group stage this time around (Netherlands, Wales) and played 87 minutes of the final against Spain before being replaced by Beth Mead.

Clinton played the final 15 minutes of extra-time, while United Women’s inspirational captain, Le Tissier, was unfortunate to remain an unused substitute.

The girls’ domestic campaign begins with a Women’s Super League match at home to Leicester City on Sunday 7 September (12:00 BST).
