Manchester United starlet Harry Amass is reportedly on the verge of completing a late loan transfer to Sheffield Wednesday.
United’s plan for Amass
Amass enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at United last term, making his senior debut for the club in March when he came on as a substitute in the 3-0 victory against Leicester City.
He went on to chalk up seven senior appearances for United across the Premier League and Europa League.
Yet, Amass was not named in Ruben Amorim’s pre-season travelling squad to the United States. Even though he had made significant progress and earned a spot in the first team, it was evident that he was still struggling with certain aspects of the game, particularly the physical side against stronger opponents.
With United out of Europe and facing a lighter schedule, it was clear that Amass would struggle for minutes, prompting the club to send him out on loan.
A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this month relayed that there was as many as 15 clubs eyeing Amass, with Sheffield Wednesday being one of them.
Reigning Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven also explored a move for the England youth international but it appears Wednesday have won the race for his signature.
Amass set for Wednesday move
Simon Stone of the BBC reveals, “Manchester United youngster Harry Amass is close to completing a season-long loan with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.”
“Numerous clubs were interested in the 18-year-old but United were keen to ensure Amass got the best chance of regular starts.”
“It is felt Wednesday offer that and the current disputes around owner Dejphon Chansiri are not an issue as United will ensure Amass’ wages are covered.”
Manchester Evening News have corroborated this information, adding that Diego Leon’s arrival from Cerro Porteno played a part in sealing Amass’ fate.
Leon is expected to be a regular presence in the first team, which could have further pushed Amass down the pecking order.
