Manchester United star Ella Toone has provided crucial insight into her recovery journey as she continues to work hard ahead of a sensational return to action. Toone injured Toone has missed United’s start to the new year with an injury picked up in late December. She was taken off in the 62nd minute of United’s League Cup quarter-final victory over Tottenham Hotspur and replaced by Lisa Naalsund. Speaking after the final whistle, Marc Skinner revealed that Toone had felt some sensitivity in the hamstring area. Skinner later remarked that Toone was set to be out for six to eight weeks. In her absence, United bolstered their attacking department with the addition of Swedish forward Ellen Wangerheim from Hammarby, who put pen to paper on a three-year contract. Before she sustained an injury, Toone had featured in every WSL match for United this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in that period. Speaking to club media, she acknowledged the difficulty of being sidelined but insisted that her mental strength has not wavered. Toone gives update Toone said, “It’s difficult [being out]. I hate missing football games.” “So that’s just annoying. I don’t really like being in the gym rehabbing, but I’m in a good mindset. I know that I can come back bigger and stronger, and I know that I can use this time really wisely to focus on me and get myself feeling in a better place when I come back.” “The last time I had an injury, I came back and I was in a really good place. So, I know I can do it again.” She added, “I think it’s really important to listen to your body, to listen to the people around you. Like there’s no point in rushing back because you don’t want to do it again or do something even worse. So, I know I’m in good hands. I know I’ve got to listen to the people around me, but it’s really exciting.” “Now, the second half of the season, we’ve got the FA Cup, we’ve got the Champions League games against Atletico [Madrid], we’re fighting in the league still. We’ve got the Conti [League] Cup semi-final coming up, so there’s so much.” “It’s a disappointing time to be injured. But, like I say, I know I’m going to come back better.” Toone highlighted the need to be a supportive presence off the pitch, adding that she is eager to make her return as soon as possible.
