United snub golden chance to land Champions League winner at an absolute bargain – report

In a bid to support Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United project and ensure it prospers, INEOS remain intent on recruiting top-quality players. One such name who could have been an instant hit at Old Trafford, much like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, is Sergio Ramos. Ramos departs Monterrey Ramos has just left Monterrey as a free agent. The Mexican side were keen to retain him after an impressive stint, yet the four-time Champions League winner was determined to return to playing in Europe. As speculation gathered pace, all eyes turned to the 20-time English champions to see if they would pull off the deal. Truth behind the links However, an interesting update has now dropped. According to ESPN, “Manchester United have no interest in signing Sergio Ramos as the former Spain international looks for his next club.” “He has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but United are not exploring a deal, and no talks have taken place.” United’s transfer priorities ESPN further revealed United’s plans: “United are focused on signing younger players… The recruitment drive is currently centred on strengthening the centre of midfield and increasing options at wing-back.” This revelation, dropping just as Ramos-to-United rumours began to gather steam, should effectively end speculation of a January switch for the 39-year-old. Long-standing pursuit of Ramos It remains a shame Ramos will never don United’s colours, despite the club’s repeated attempts to secure his services. Back in 2015, United reportedly lodged a £28.6 million bid, only for Real Madrid to reject it. Fast forward to 2023, and once again, United tried to lure him, but Ramos snubbed the approach. This time, however, it appears that United have turned down the opportunity. Defensive reinforcements still eyed Even so, while the immediate focus lies on midfield and wing-back reinforcements, there are still hints of United’s desire to strengthen at centre-back. Indeed, recent reports suggest Amorim has urged INEOS to pursue Elche defender David Affengruber, with the aim of pairing him with Leny Yoro in the heart of United’s defence.
