United “seriously considering” signing La Liga midfielder who “plays like Pogba”, €60m bid will be accepted – report

Manchester United had to dig deep to secure all three points against Everton on Monday night. Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score the winning goal in what was a physical and tight affair on Merseyside. Accordingly, Michael Carrick kept the ageing but reliable Casemiro on the pitch for the full ninety minutes to avoid a late equaliser from Everton. The decision also underlined the lack of trust he has in Manuel Ugarte, who remained an unused substitute yet again.  Pape Gueye lands on Manchester United’s radar Manchester United signed Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. Many expected the combative Uruguayan to replace Casemiro under Erik ten Hag. While Casemiro remains a regular starter at United, Ugarte’s reputation has plummeted sharply since then. The Brazilian veteran will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season, and it would not surprise many if the 24-year-old follows him out the door. It is believed United are planning to sign two midfielders in their bid to overhaul the midfield and have added a surprise name to their shortlist. According to a report relayed by Sports Mole, United are interested in signing Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye. Manchester United plotting Pape Gueye move The 27-year-old Senegal international is enjoying a stellar season at Villarreal after his struggles at Watford and Marseille.  The 6ft 2in defensive midfielder, known for his duel-winning ability and positional awareness, has scored three goals and registered one assist in 28 appearances under Marcelino this campaign. The Le Havre youth product has also drawn comparisons to Paul Pogba for his physicality.  It is claimed several Premier League clubs are tracking Gueye, with United “seriously considering” a move in the summer. The Senegalese star’s “quiet leadership and consistency” is admired by United, who are determined to find a reliable midfielder to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo. Villarreal signed Gueye on a free transfer, but the La Liga side are now hoping to fetch €60 million (£52m) from his exit.
