“Insane” wonderkid scores four to send United u-21s top of the league, he’s banging on Carrick’s door

Manchester United’s Under-21s were in action on Monday night at the same time as the first team. Adam Lawrence’s side travelled to Leicester City’s training ground in search of three points that would take them to the top of the Premier League 2 table. First half The home side came close to opening the scoring early on when midfielder Ryan Donnelly hit the post after carving open space in the United area. United’s Chido Obi had an opportunity when he got on the end of Jim Thwaites’ cross but could not keep his effort on target under pressure. The pairing combined again, though, in the 37th minute and this time Obi made no mistake. Another whipped-in cross from Thwaites flew into the box and Obi headed past Jake Donohue in the Leicester goal. Four minutes later, Leicester levelled the scoring from a cross of their own when Misrad Ali found Lorenz Hutchinson at the back post to convert. Obi restored United’s lead just before the break, picking up the ball outside the box and driving inside before giving the keeper no chance with a clinical finish. Second half United were well and truly on top as the second half progressed and almost extended their lead 10 minutes after the restart. Malachi Sharpe utilised his speed to break free of the Leicester defenders and run through on goal, but Donohue was quick off his line to deny the United winger. Leicester’s hopes of getting back into the match were all but over when Reiss Khela was shown two yellow cards in the span of two minutes. The defender was initially booked for a heavy challenge on Sharpe before dragging down Jayce Fitzgerald just 90 seconds later to earn his marching orders. Fitzgerald looked to make Leicester pay when he danced into the area with quick turns, but the United midfielder dragged his effort wide. Obi sealed his hat-trick late on with a deft finish over Donohue on a counter-attack as Leicester chased an equaliser. The Danish striker did not settle for just three, though, and added a fourth in stoppage time to seal the victory. Obi skipped past his marker excellently on the edge of the box before slotting his finish under the goalkeeper. The three points push United back to the top of the table ahead of Chelsea and Ipswich Town, who are level on points in second place. It will be a top-of-the-table clash next time out as United host Chelsea next Monday.
