United retain interest in €50m German midfielder dubbed ‘Toni Kroos 2.0’, player ready to move in 2026 – report

Manchester United’s quest to reinforce their midfield over the summer reportedly led them to Angelo Stiller’s doorstep.

The German midfielder has gone from strength to strength since joining VfB Stuttgart from TSG Hoffenheim in the summer of 2023.

Stiller helped Die Roten win the DFB Pokal last season and subsequently turned heads at the Theatre of Dreams. His performances sparked rumours of a possible move to Real Madrid over the summer as a potential heir to Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the transfer never materialised.

A report from The Peoples Person stated that the Red Devils made a late move for the 24 year old this summer, but the player opted to stay at the MHPArena instead.

Amorim needs a new midfielder

United are slowly finding their feet under Ruben Amorim after an eventful summer. The Red Devils made a slow start to the season but have picked up the pace of late.

Following their impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday, 19 October, Amorim’s side now sit just two points behind the Reds, who occupy third place in the league.

The Portuguese head coach focused on improving the attack this summer, but the midfield is likely to be among his top priorities for 2026.

Casemiro is out of contract in less than 12 months, while Manuel Ugarte has yet to convince. Amorim, meanwhile, does not appear to be fully convinced by Kobbie Mainoo, who has registered just 118 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Multiple names are reportedly on United’s shortlist in 2026, and it now appears that the Premier League giants are ready to return to the Bundesliga to secure one of their targets this summer.

United want Angelo Stiller

According to Sky Germany, United have retained their interest in Stiller, who is likely to be on the move in 2026. The German has been handed a €50m price tag, but that figure could rise if the player continues to impress at the MHPArena.

There is reportedly a €40m release clause in his contract, but the Bundesliga club are already planning to remove it by paying Stiller a €2m compensation fee. The player is under contract until 2028, giving Stuttgart the upper hand in negotiations next the summer.

United’s interest is understandable, given Amorim’s midfield paradox. The German, meanwhile, recently revealed that he is open to considering a future move to a foreign club.

However, ball-winning is not one of Stiller’s strong suits, so the German midfielder cannot replace Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte in the team. The Red Devils, as such, may still look to sign someone like Carlos Baleba for the job.
