United request January meeting with lightning-quick transfer target to strike early deal – report

Manchester United have reportedly requested Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies and his agent for a meeting in January, in a bid to try and reach an agreement over a free transfer.

The left-back position is believed to be an area of the pitch United are keen on strengthening, either during the winter transfer window or in the summer.

Luke Shaw’s injury struggles seem to be far from over as he recently picked up another issue, which is set to keep him sidelined for weeks.

At the moment, Tyrell Malacia is the only natural left-back who is available to Ruben Amorim for selection. However, there are still question marks over the Dutchman’s fitness after an extremely lengthy period on the sidelines.

In the two games he has featured since his return to action – against Bodo/Glimt and Arsenal – Malacia was on the pitch for only 45 minutes before being withdrawn.

In his post-match presser after the Arsenal game, Amorim admitted that Malacia’s minutes are currently being limited to ensure he is gently eased back.

Some of the left-backs United continue to be linked to include Davies, Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Alvaro Fernandez (Benfica) and Theo Hernandez (AC Milan).

Davies in particular is thought to be a key target for United, considering he is on the brink of becoming a free agent.

The Canada international has yet to agree terms of a new contract with Bayern and if there is no breakthrough in talks, he will be free to speak to other clubs in January.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Bayern have made significant progress regarding a fresh deal for the lightning-quick full-back.

It was stated that negotiations are positive, with Davies keen on remaining at the Allianz Arena. The report added that United are aware that Davies is likely to extend his stay in Bavaria.

However, according to BILD journalist Christian Falk, Bayern are yet to accept Davies’ demands.

Falk further notes that United are working to get a sit-down in January with the 24-year-old star and his representatives, presumably to try and convince him about a potential switch to Old Trafford.

Falk wrote on X, “Manchester United have asked Alphonso Davies (24) and his Manager for a Meeting in January.”

“Davies is a free Agent in Summer and he can then negotiate and sign with another club from January 1st.”

“Bayern have not yet accepted the demand of €16 million salary per year and €15 million signing fee.”

Davies has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season, registering three assists in that period.
