Manchester United have decided to cut short promising academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison’s loan spell with Chester FC and recalled him to Old Trafford.
He was sent on a season-long loan to the National League North to expose him to competitive first-team football and in the process, accelerate his development.
And the 18-year-old certainly impressed at the Deva Stadium, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 starts, impressing United staff with his mature displays.
The first-team is certainly going through a difficult spell in goal with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir committing high-profile errors in recent weeks.

And there have been talks of Ruben Amorim not being pleased with his options at hand is looking to strengthen in that department with the Turk set to make way either in January or next summer.
Despite Harrison’s impressive loan, there are no plans of including him in the first team just yet with The Manchester Evening News revealing that the Red Devils are eyeing a loan higher up the EFL division.
“Manchester United have recalled young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison from his loan with Chester FC.
“The 18-year-old excelled and the decision has been taken to recall him, with a view to potentially organising another loan away at a higher level for the second half of 2024/25.”
Another loan on the cards
Despite yet another loan exit being on the horizon, United coaches rate Harrison very highly and think he is good enough to break into the United first-team squad.
In fact, so highly-rated is the young goalie that he signed his first pro deal as soon as he turned 17, the earliest time when club’s can offer a young player pro terms.
“There are high hopes for Harrison in the academy and United believe they have a goalkeeper who has the potential to break into the first-team, which will eventually be his target,” The MEN further added.
He had joined the 20-time English league champions from Stevenage when he was only 16 and his performances last season for both the U18s and U21s saw him named Reserve Player of the Year.
