Manchester United are prepared to address their left flank in the January transfer window.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are keeping an eye on Federico Dimarco.
The Inter Milan left-back is considered an excellent attacking outlet out wide. His ball-striking and passing in the final third made him one of Simone Inzaghi’s most important players during the Serie A giant’s run to the Champions League final last term.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s current wing-back options are underwhelming, to say the least. A report in Spain suggests United are set to intensify their efforts to strengthen the area.
Manchester United ready to test Inter’s resolve
According to Fichajes, United are preparing a bid to sign the Inter star in January.
It is claimed the club’s hierarchy at Old Trafford believe the Italy international’s arrival could prove to be the catalyst which results in Amorim effectively implementing his ideas, as wing-backs are crucial in his 3-4-3 system, especially going forward.
The 27-year-old was directly involved in 15 goals in all competitions last season.
Interestingly, the Spanish outlet claim Inter are “willing to negotiate” his exit, as his contract is due to expire in 2027. Further, under new manager Christian Chivu, Dimarco isn’t viewed as an indispensable star at San Siro.
Dimarco could push Shaw out the door
It is added that Dimarco’s possible arrival would raise question marks over the future of Luke Shaw.
In possession, Shaw is perhaps United’s most creative wing-back. However, the Englishman no longer has the physicality and athleticism to maraud up and down the flank.
The 30-year-old has been used on the left side of a back three this season, but his sharpness, or lack thereof, has frequently left United’s backline vulnerable.
Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu’s indecisiveness in the final third has come back to haunt Amorim’s side several times. As such, Dimarco should be at the top of United’s priority list.
