Manchester United’s 0-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday once again laid bare how much Ruben Amorim is missing a ruthless goalscorer.
Joshua Zirkzee is more of a link-up player than a striker while Rasmus Hojlund has been woeful all season with the head coach looking to move him on in the summer.
With Alejandro Garnacho’s future also up in the air and Amad likely to be played at wingback upon his return from injury, recruiting a versatile attacking option could be on the cards.
And the Red Devils have long been admirers of Ademola Lookman who has been on fire for Atalanta since his move to Bergamo back in 2022.

The Nigerian has 18 goals and seven assists already this season from only 28 starts in all competitions with a goal contribution every 92 minutes.
He can play as the striker, attacking midfielder and even out wide, and his versatility will be a great asset to have for any team.
The London-born ace’s incredible form for the Serie A side has meant plenty of teams are looking at him ahead of the summer window with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and even Juventus monitoring his situation.
And after a fall-out with Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta are open to his sale and have slapped a €60 million price tag on his head and as per Caughtoffside, the 20-time English league champions are ready to pay the asking price.
A meeting with the “scary” attacker’s camp is expected to be held in April with the 27-year-old intent on moving back to the Premier League.

“According to Caught Offside sources, Man United remain strongly interested in signing Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman as they plan a major rebuild of attack in the summer.
“Atalanta, for their part, have set a price tag of around €60 million for the Nigerian winger, a figure that United especially consider fair for their squad transformation.
“For this reason, at the end of April, new talks have already been scheduled with the player’s entourage to gather new information and verify the negotiation margins.”
Lookman has the experience of playing in the Premier League, something INEOS value highly and his explosiveness would be a great fit for Amorim.
But whether United go after an out-and-out striker or a versatile option like the Nigeria international remains to be seen.
