Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s system employs the use of two attacking midfielders on either side of a striker instead of traditional wingers.
The Portuguese has tried Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho in those positions even though both have mostly played out wide in their short careers thus far.
Kobbie Mainoo, often played as one of the deep-lying midfielders under Erik ten Hag, was also played in that position recently while Bruno Fernandes remains the only natural No 10 in Amorim’s ranks.
Which is why he wants more quality in that position moving forwards with Christian Eriksen set to be let go once the current campaign ends.
Oihan Sancet is a top target
As per Fichajes, the Red Devils are keeping an eye on Athletic Bilbao’s Oihan Sancet who has been on fire this season in La Liga.
The Spaniard has nine goals and three assists in 17 starts across all competitions and has already attracted interest from United’s league rivals Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old, regarded as “one of the great jewels of Spanish football” is keen to test himself in the Premier League and United’s financial muscle could prove too much for Athletic club who could be forced to let him go should an appropriate offer arrive.

“In addition, the attraction of playing in a league as competitive as the English one and competing in the European elite could influence the player’s decision.”
The Spain international reportedly has a release clause worth €80 million and whether INEOS trigger that in the summer remains to be seen.
A lot will depend on the kind of budget Amorim is handed next summer with the striker position in dire need of an injection of talent.
