United “prepared to allocate” £80m to sign “special” captain of PL rivals after making contact – report

Manchester United hold genuine interest in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports. Casemiro’s decision to leave United at the end of the season, upon the expiration of his contract, has forced Ineos into action ahead of the summer transfer window. Midfield was always going to be an area of focus for the club’s recruitment team in the summer. However, United will now have to bring in a marquee name with leadership qualities to fill Casemiro’s void. Manchester United make move for Bruno Guimaraes According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United consider Bruno Guimaraes an ideal replacement for the departing Casemiro, having already made “informal contact” with the midfielder. The Newcastle United captain is the heartbeat of Eddie Howe’s midfield, owing to his relentless work rate, technical ability and an eye for goal. Guimaraes has been directly involved in 16 goals across all competitions this term.  It is believed several of Europe’s top clubs “continue to track” the Brazilian, but the “most serious interest” appears to be coming from United. Guimaraes, described as a “special” individual by Howe, is seen as a player “capable of anchoring their midfield for years to come”. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Casemiro himself has recommended the 28-year-old Brazilian’s signing. Manchester United willing to splash big on Bruno Guimaraes It is understood United are “planning a major squad investment this summer, with the midfield identified as a priority area.” Accordingly, the Red Devils could be “prepared to allocate around £80 million for the Brazilian as part of a wider transfer budget exceeding £230 million”. Apart from Guimaraes, United are closely monitoring his teammate Sandro Tonali, who is also a very athletic midfielder with a strong work ethic. Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who came through Newcastle’s ranks, is thought to be United’s dream target, but he appears to be heading to Manchester City.
