Manchester United target Angel Gomes “will 100% leave” his current club at the end of the season according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The 24-year-old left United in 2020 and has come on leaps and bounds since, establishing himself as a key player for Lille.
But his contract with the Ligue 1 side expires at the end of the campaign and Romano has confirmed what has long been suspected, that he will certainly leave and be available for free in the summer.
As per GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist said: “Yes, Premier League is a possibility for Angel Gomes while also clubs in the Bundesliga asked for information to his new agents. He will 100% leave Lille.”
With belts tightening across Europe, quality players available without a transfer fee to pay will inevitably be at the centre of an aggressive tug-of-war between budget-conscious clubs.
United’s financial issues are generating almost as many headlines as their on-field performances, so reinforcing the midfield with an energetic and creative player available for free would tick all the boxes.
Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen on bringing Gomes back to Old Trafford as he looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.
Injuries to the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte has forced the Portuguese to turn to 33-year-olds Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who are ill-suited to the intense style of play their manager demands.
But Gomes to United is far from a done deal, with a multitude of other clubs vying for the player’s signature.
The report names West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa as contenders, with each likely to have differing appeals to the midfielder who may not necessarily join the Red Devils as a first-choice option.
And Romano’s revelation that there is also interest from Bundesliga clubs just serves to make the task even more difficult for a club desperate to squeeze every ounce of value out of the summer market.
Gomes has played 134 times for Lille and earned an England call-up last year under interim manager Lee Carsley.
