United prepare audacious €60m raid for PSG’s Champions League hero to brutally replace Ten Hag flop – report

Manchester United are willing to submit an audacious €60 million bid to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma as the Italian international only has one year remaining on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, as per a report.

Fichajes contend the Red Devils are “closely monitoring” the 26-year-old shot stopper as they seek to find Ruben Amorim an alternative to the wildly inconsistent Andre Onana.

Onana, 29 has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after enduring a miserable campaign at Old Trafford, having made a number of high-profile mistakes this year.

But this error-strewn approach was a continuation of the shaky form the Cameroonian international demonstrated in his debut season after the £47.2 million move from Inter Milan in 2023.

That costly decision – to move on from long-term stalwart David de Gea to Onana – was sanctioned by Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag.

The 40-year-old Portuguese coach holds no loyalty to Onana and the emergence of reports United are actively looking for a new goalkeeper this summer, with links to Espanyol’s Joan Garcia and Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, suggests Amorim is keen to make a change between the sticks.

But Donnarumma is an ambitious target, even if United find a buyer in the Saudi Pro League for Onana.

However, the Italian’s deal at the Parc de Princes expires in 2026 and Fichajes reveals “talks to extend his contract have not yet come to fruition.”

If an agreement cannot be reached, this summer would constitute the last opportunity for the Ligue 1 champions to cash in on their goalkeeper, as he would be able to negotiate a free transfer from January.

And it’s this glimmer of an opportunity which Old Trafford officials are reportedly hoping to exploit with a tantalising €60 million (£50 million) proposal.

Standing nearly 6’5, Donnarumma is an imposing goalkeeper with a formidable presence in the box and outstanding shot-stopping, possessing freaky reflexes for a player so big.

While he is not the most comfortable with the ball at his feet, he is sufficiently proficient for PSG manager Luis Enrique – a coach who dogmatically chooses technique over physique – to stick with him, such is Donnarumma’s match-winning abilities, as this season’s Champions League campaign has demonstrated.

Were United able to convince the Italian to swap Paris for Manchester, while Onana heads through the exit door at Old Trafford, it would constitute a game-changing upgrade for Amorim and his team.
