United poised to sign Premier League-proven midfielder in swap deal allowing Amorim to dump Jadon Sancho- report

Manchester United may be able to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus in exchange for Jadon Sancho.

Following Christian Eriksen’s departure from the club, Man United are in need of a new centre-mid, particularly as Casemiro ages past his peak.

One feasible option that has emerged this summer is Douglas Luiz, who appears desperate to leave Juventus following a chaotic season.

While it was previously reported that Juventus would be willing to sell Luiz for just £30 million, United could pull off an audacious swap given that the Italian side is actually interested in a player who Ruben Amorim would like to offload.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Juventus entered talks with United over a swap deal involving Luiz and Jadon Sancho.

The Englishman seems to have been on the Serie A giants’ radar for a while now, with the two parties reportedly engaging in positive talks.

In fact, The Peoples Person noted this morning that Sancho would even be willing to take a pay cut if it means getting the Juventus deal over the line.

Now, a new update appears to have confirmed that the Sancho and Luiz exchange is on the route to materialising.

#DouglasLuiz è un profilo gradito al Manchester United: a gennaio scorso il brasiliano volle rimanere alla #Juve, ora potrebbe diventare una chiave per l’affare #Sancho. “#DouglasLuiz is a profile appreciated by Manchester United: last January, the Brazilian chose to stay at #Juve, but now he could become a key piece in the #Sancho deal,” journalist Giovanni Albanese posted on X.

Luiz suffered a torrid season at Juventus, marred by a hamstring injury as well as muscle fatigue.

He made only 27 appearances and was unable to bag a single goal or assist.

This performance paled in comparison to his previous season at Aston Villa, when he posted nine goals and five assists in 35 Premier League matches – impressive figures for a player in such a deep position at the centre of the park. (Stats via Transfermarkt)

Although Luiz’s past season could be a concern for United when considering which players to sign this summer, he is no doubt a proven Premier League player who knows how to make an impact at the summit of English football.

What’s more, his arrival could result in the departure of Sancho, who United manager Amorim would surely be happy to see the back of, following what has been far too much locker room drama at Old Trafford.
