United plotting sensational double swoop for Ligue 1 duo set to be available for free this summer – report

Manchester United are reportedly keen on completing a double deal for Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes in the summer.

United are expected to be very busy in the upcoming transfer window as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS try to shape the squad in Ruben Amorim’s image.

The current crop of players are struggling to get fully acclimated to the demands of Amorim’s system and it’s clear the club will have to dip into the market for reinforcements, if they are to be competitive next term.

Attack and midfield are two areas of the pitch that need strengthening, with both David and Gomes mentioned as United targets. Both players are set to be free agents in the summer when their contracts with Lille expire.

David has been linked to United at several stages of his career but a move has never materialised. However, with the Canada international now on the brink of free agency, a switch may now be firmly on the cards. He recently opened up on his future, admitting that he wants to play for a big club.

Gomes on the other hand, previously admitted that he harbours a soft spot for United and would favour a return to Old Trafford over any other potential transfer destinations.

The Carrington academy graduate just signed with a new agency and will be represented by ROOF going forward.

Now, Spanish news outlet Fichajes claims that United are working on convincing both players to join their ranks ahead of next season.

Fichajes state that United are “already making moves to strengthen their squad” without forking out exorbitant fees for their targets, hence why David and Gomes are appealing options.

It’s understood that United are “looking to get ahead of the competition” for David’s signature.

With regard to Gomes, the Red Devils admire the  24-year-old’s “versatility and creativity” in the middle of the park.

Fichajes add, “Taking advantage of market opportunities like these has become a priority for United. Both David and Gomes would provide quality without generating extra spending on transfers, something key to the board’s plans. With the summer approaching, the Red Devils are working to convince both players and ensure their arrival in the Premier League.”

So far this term David has bagged 20 goals and provided nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. Gomes had registered one goal and as many assists in 13 Ligue 1 games.
