United plotting move for incredible 25-yo Roma star, “sensational offer” needed to agree a deal – report

Manchester United are battling Newcastle United for the signing of AS Roma defender Evan Ndicka, as per reports.

Defence isn’t necessarily seen as United’s major issue, with the Red Devils currently prioritising strengthening their attack.

However, United are set to lose both Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof this summer upon the expiration of their respective contracts.

As such, the Mancunians risk heading into the new season with a thin backline, especially as Ruben Amorim deploys a back three formation. Interestingly, a report in Italy suggests, United do intend to address their defensive options.

According to Il Messaggero (via Tuttomercatoweb), United and Newcastle are among the clubs interested in Ndicka.

Signed from Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent in 2023, the Ivorian has proven to be one of Roma’s best signings in recent years.

The ever-reliable 25-year-old took part in every one of Roma’s 38 matches in Serie A this campaign and impressed with his athleticism and composure.

The left-footed centre-back could prove to be a brilliant long-term replacement for Lisandro Martinez, who has struggled with injuries over the last two seasons. However, it is not going to be easy for United to secure Ndicka’s services.

It is claimed the Auxerre academy product is considered an “unsellable” asset by the Giallorossi, and it would take a “sensational offer” to convince them to change their stance.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Roma value their star at €40 million.

Considering United’s financial predicament, it is difficult to see them spending such a figure on a new centre-back without a major sale in that department.

For now, Amorim may have to rely on the likes of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro to step up next season.
