Manchester United are working on lowering the age of their goalkeeping department, it seems. Heading into the current season, United had Andre Onana (29), Altay Bayindir (27) and Tom Heaton (39) as their goalkeeping options. Heaton’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, Onana, currently out on loan, has been replaced by 23-year-old Senne Lammens. Now, a report suggests the Red Devils have set their sights on a young shot-stopper to possibly replace Bayindir. Manchester United show interest in Melker Ellborg According to Swedish newspaper Expressen (via Sport Witness), United are interested Malmo star Melker Ellborg. The 22-year-old has been on the Swedish giants’ books since 2019, and after several loan stints, he has become a regular for the senior side. Ellborg has played 14 matches for Malmo, recording and impressive seven clean sheets in the process. It is claimed that the 6’3″ Swede has generated “great interest” with his performances and several clubs are monitoring his progress. Expressen suggest that the possibility of a January offer can’t be ruled out. Interestingly, United are the only club mentioned by the outlet, who add that the Premier League giants have included the Malmo goalkeeper in their shortlist. Lammens has settled at Manchester United Lammens, meanwhile, is currently viewed as United’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Belgian, who arrived at Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp on deadline day, had to wait until October for his debut under Ruben Amorim. Since then, he has started in all of United’s Premier League games. In his first five appearances, Lammens has looked far more assured between the sticks than Onana and Bayindir and remains unbeaten as a United player. Lammens earned a call-up to the Belgium national squad for November’s international fixtures. With Thibaut Courtois sidelined, the United youngster could make his senior international debut in the coming days.
