United pave way for 28-yo stars exit after new signing makes him surplus to requirements – report

Manchester United have made a decision on Altay Bayindir as his exit this summer looks increasingly inevitable. Expected departure Bayindir’s time at United appears to be all but over, especially after the signing of Karl Darlow, who arrived as a free agent from old foes Leeds United. With Senne Lammens established as the undisputed starter and Darlow set to support him, as well as the presence of veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton, there is no longer a place for Bayindir. Bayindir’s inclusion in goal during the early stages of the 2025/26 season proved controversial, with then-manager Ruben Amorim appearing to use him in an attempt to force Andre Onana out of the side. But Bayindir failed to justify his selection, making numerous mistakes that ultimately pushed United to dip into the market for Lammens. In January, Besiktas launched an attempt to sign Bayindir but United, conscious not to be left short in the goalkeeping department, blocked an exit. The Red Devils are understood to be more receptive to an exit this summer. In addition to Besiktas, a return to Fenerbahce has been mooted for Bayindir. Now, Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun reports that United have granted Bayindir an extended break away from Carrington to sort out his future. Bayindir latest Luckhurst writes, “Altay Bayindir has been granted additional time off by Manchester United ahead of his expected departure.” Bayindir was called up to the Turkey national team for the 2026 World Cup but did not feature in any of their three group games before they were eliminated. Like other United players who took part in the tournament, Bayindir was given a three-week break, which he has since served. However, the 28-year-old has yet to report back to Carrington for pre-season training. Amad remains out, but Tyler Fletcher is back after being an unused sub throughout Scotland’s World Cup campaign. United lost seven of the 17 games Bayindir started in, conceding 31 goals in that period.
