United on red alert as rival PL clubs line up audacious grab for prized midfield prodigy – report

Manchester United starlet Jacob Devaney is reportedly the subject of interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

Devaney at United

A central midfielder who primarily plays in the number six role, Devaney has enjoyed a gradual rise in United’s famed academy system.

He made his debut for United Under-18s in April 2023 at just 15.

Devaney played a key role as the side went on to win an incredible treble during the 2023/24 campaign. He made 22 appearances out of a possible 24 that term – more than any other player during the season.

The 18-year-old has started 2025/26 in brilliant fashion, impressing with his calm and composed performances in the middle of the park. His passing, in particular, stands out as one of his biggest strengths.

He has worn the armband in all six Premier League 2 matches that the Under-21s have played this season.

Earlier today, it emerged that Devaney was called up by Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff to take part in first-team training.

Others who received the invitation were Tyler Fletcher, Shea Lacey, Sam Mather, Bendito Mantato, Reece Munro, Chido Obi and Jim Thwaites.

It appears his displays have gone unnoticed, with Nathan Salt of the Daily Mail revealing that there are Premier League clubs monitoring Devaney’s situation.

PL clubs eyeing Devaney

Salt wrote on X, “Think it got missed in a recent Confidential column that a lot of Premier League rivals are keeping tabs on Devaney.”

“One of those who goes under the radar compared to the flair players.”

Asked whether there is a chance Devaney will head out on loan in January, Salt revealed that there are currently no clear plans for any players but each player’s situation will be looked at when the winter window commences.

Played a lot at CB this season but also had minutes as a No 6. No clear loan plan for players just yet but everyone will be reevaluated in Jan

Meanwhile, Devaney’s father, Martin – an assistant coach at League One outfit Port Vale – made a cheeky post insisting that his son is the best six at United.

Martin said, “18 and been a consistent high performer.”

“Doesn’t do step overs or shoot from 30 yards every game so doesn’t get the limelight, controls the game, team player. Best 6 at the club.”

Devaney has already broken onto the international scene, featuring for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21s.
