Manchester United appear to have made a decision on whether or not to sign a new midfielder ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.
This comes amid a busy day of business for the club, with Senne Lammens set to join Man United as their new goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho appears set to join Aston Villa on loan.
Still, there have been questions around United signing a new centre-mid, particularly since they seem to be spread thin on that part of the pitch.
The search for a midfielder
With Kobbie Mainoo’s future at United seemingly unclear, the club would need to rely on only Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte for coverage in the middle of the park.
This would be an alarming situation, especially given how important the midfield is to United’s success.
Still, with Mainoo seemingly set to remain at United past the transfer deadline, it seems that the club has all but decided how to approach the remainder of transfer deadline day.
United’s midfield strategy confirmed
“Man Utd are not expecting to sign a new midfielder today. Little chance of Kobbie Mainoo leaving after Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount were injured at the weekend. Utd set to stick with a midfield group of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Mainoo & Mount,” Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail posted on X.

Clearly, manager Ruben Amorim feels that his current midfield setup is sufficient for the season ahead.
Wheeler also seemingly confirmed previous reports that Mainoo would remain at Old Trafford.
Of course, Mainoo remaining at United would be warmly welcomed given Mount’s and Cunha’s injuries on the weekend.
While the extent of the duo’s injuries is so far unconfirmed, it’s clear that United will need all the midfielders at their disposal in order to overcome any further injuries that may surface.
