United make move as PL rivals decide to sanction loan exit of long-term target after nightmare season – report

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is demonstrating his immense potential under Michael Carrick. Signed from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €85 million, Sesko initially struggled under Ruben Amorim. He has now scored four goals in his last five Premier League games Big things are expected of the 6ft 4in tall striker, who is sharp and mobile with the ball at his feet. However, he was not the club’s first-choice number nine. Manchester United in the race for Liam Delap It has been widely reported that Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is a huge admirer of Liam Delap, having worked with the Englishman at Manchester City.  Wilcox tried to bring Delap to Manchester United from Ipswich Town, but the 23-year-old ultimately decided to join Chelsea. However, his future is once again uncertain following a difficult start to life in London. According to CaughtOffside, five clubs, including United, Sunderland and Everton, are keeping an eye on his situation at Stamford Bridge.  Liam Delap Stats: 2025/26 Season CompetitionAppearancesGoalsAssistsYellow Premier League1711- UEFA Champions League31– FA Cup2-3- EFL Cup2–1 Total 25/2624241 It is claimed a loan in the summer is more likely, but sources are not ruling out a permanent sale for Delap on the back of a nightmare campaign.  The report states: “Delap might not have much longer at Chelsea. It’s clear that he’s struggled, and they’ll be open to a loan this summer – that could be with an option or obligation to buy, but don’t be surprised if they’re open to permanent offers straight away.” It is believed several clubs are “already informed and considering their next steps” ahead of the summer transfer window. United’s admiration for Delap has not changed. Roy Keane’s verdict on Liam Delap It remains to be seen whether United are serious about testing Chelsea’s resolve for Delap 12 months after being snubbed by him. As far as Roy Keane is concerned, United dodged a bullet in the summer. Speaking on Stick to Football, he said: “At the moment, he’s obviously lacking confidence, and he lacks real quality, doesn’t he? Being a handful up front isn’t enough.” United could definitely do with adding another striker to their ranks, especially if Joshua Zirkzee departs. However, Wilcox should expand his search and look for a proven goalscorer.
