United make key decision on Ruben Amorim’s future after Bournemouth draw – David Ornstein

Manchester United have struggled for consistency under Ruben Amorim, and Monday’s chaotic 4-4 draw against Bournemouth at Old Trafford summed up their season perfectly. The Red Devils took the lead in the 13th minute through Amad Diallo, and looked in complete control, only for the visitors to draw level in the 40th minute. Casemiro, however, ensured that the hosts went into the break with a 2-1 lead, only for Bournemouth to go 3-2 up by the 52nd minute. Bruno Fernandes scored a superb free kick to get United back into the contest in the 77th minute, and Matheus Cunha appeared to have sealed all three points two minutes later. However, the visitors had the final say, and snatched a late equaliser to leave the Theatre of Dreams with a share of the spoils. The Red Devils have struggled for consistency this season and now sit sixth in the league table after 16 games. While there have been clear improvements in their performance compared to last season, Amorim’s position continues to attract scrutiny. Amorim’s struggles at Old Trafford United invested over €200 million in the squad over the summer, reinforcing their attack as well as bolstering their goalkeeping department. However, the season has not gone according to plan so far, with the Red Devils already knocked out of the EFL Cup in the second round. Their Premier League form has been equally frustrating. The only time Amorim’s team has won back-to-back games this season was during a three-game winning run in October, when they defeated Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion. United have now registered just two victories in their last seven games and it has hampered their quest to secure a top-four place in the league this season. Amorim continues to divide opinion among fans more than a year after he took charge, a spell during he has registered a win rate of 38.98%. United not eyeing a managerial change Speaking on Sky Sports, Ornstein stated that United are willing to be patient with Amorim. He said: “Well, that they’re not the force that he wants them to be, or that the Manchester United fans, or English football, quite frankly, expect of them.” “And I mean, the post-Alex Ferguson era has had a few highs, but it’s mainly been lows, and many of them have come under Ruben Amorim.” “But the club clearly fully believe in him and are backing him to turn this around, slowly but surely, they’re backing him in the transfer market as well. And of course, they’re afflicted by injuries.” Final Thoughts Amorim was hailed as one of the brightest young managers in the world during his four-year stint with Sporting, where he won the league twice. His struggles at United, however, are in line with the club’s misfortunes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The Red Devils are yet to win the league since the legendary Scot hung up his boots in 2013. However, INEOS have put in a lot of background work since taking charge at Old Trafford, and it makes sense for them to stick with Amorim for now.
