Manchester United have been heavily reliant on Casemiro this season, with the player enjoying a resurgent run of form so far. The Brazilian left Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 to join the Premier League giants and was outstanding in his debut campaign at the Theatre of Dreams. However, his performances dropped in the following season, with his absence from the squad for the 2023/24 FA Cup final signifying a drastic fall from grace. Casemiro’s struggles showed no signs of ending last season, and even a managerial change failed to revive his form. The 33 year old was subsequently linked with an exit from Old Trafford, but a move failed to materialise for various reasons, including his exorbitant wages. In hindsight, that has worked to the Red Devils’ advantage so far. A vital cog in Amorim’s system Casemiro started the season with a new pivot partner in Bruno Fernandes, and the duo have developed quite an understanding. The Brazilian has turned out to be a vital cog in Ruben Amorim’s tactics, and has been indispensable for United so far. Casemiro has registered four goals and one assist from 15 games this season, all but one of which have been starts. United have looked far more composed with the veteran midfielder shielding the backline, which is perhaps why he has kept the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo out of the starting XI. The Brazilian has fought back from the brink of obscurity this season, and it now appears that his performances have struck a chord in the hearts of the Old Trafford hierarchy. United want Casemiro stay According to TEAMtalk, United are ready to hand Casemiro a one-year extension. The report states: “Manchester United are considering keeping Casemiro for at least one more season, with sources revealing the experienced Brazilian star has put potential talks with other clubs on hold.” “Casemiro’s current contract expires at the end of the season, although United do hold an option to extend that by a year. But we can now confirm that United have already engaged with Casemiro’s camp over a renewal, with the club now making it clear they are very much open to him remaining.” “We can confirm that United will not take up that one-year option, given he is currently the club’s highest earner, but they are talking to him about extending with a significant reduction in his terms.” The report adds that the veteran Brazilian is also keen to continue his association with the Red Devils, and is even willing to take a pay cut to stay. “Significantly, we understand that Casemiro would be open to a reduction if it meant at least one more season at Old Trafford, as the former Real Madrid man loves playing for the club.” “As a result, an extension at Old Trafford is now thought to be the player’s top priority, with his wife and young children settled in the area.” The Brazilian has registered 21 goals and 13 assists in 140 appearances for the Premier League giants. Final Thoughts United are laying down succession plans for Casemiro at the moment, with the player due to turn 34 in February. Carlos Baleba looks like the ideal candidate for the job, although Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are reportedly on the club’s wish list as well. The Red Devils will need both quality and experience in their quest to bring the glory days back to the Theatre of Dreams. Casemiro’s trophy-winning pedigree could be a great help in that cause, provided the finances of a possible extension suit United’s economic structure. 10 – Casemiro becomes the first Brazilian player to score TEN Premier League goals for Manchester United pic.twitter.com/eBCKMPTeIj — EchoStats (@echo9stats) December 15, 2025 Featured image Stu Forster via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
