United make huge Chido Obi decision ahead of tonight’s FA Youth Cup quarter-final clash vs. Arsenal – report

Manchester United youngster Chido Obi will not be involved in tonight’s game against former side Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals.

Obi has so far made two first-team appearances for United since he was promoted to the senior squad amidst the spate of injuries the club are dealing with.

Amorim handed Obi his debut during the 1-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, bringing him on as a substitute in added time.

Obi got slightly more minutes in the subsequent 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. He was an unused substitute during Wednesday’s meeting with Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that it was unlikely the 17-year-old would be available to Adam Lawrence for selection in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final clash vs. Arsenal.

Now, this has been confirmed to be true by Nathan Salt of the Daily Mail.

According to Salt, “Mail Sport understands he [Obi] has not travelled to London to face Arsenal due to being involved with the first team squad on Sunday against Fulham in the FA Cup.”

“There were question marks around Carrington all week as to whether Obi would have dispensation to feature for the U18s on Friday night, given the magnitude of the game, despite spending the week with Amorim and the first team.”

Salt points out that Amorim and his backroom staff have been impressed with Obi’s application since being promoted to the first team.

The forward will undoubtedly be hoping to get a taste of the action on Sunday when the Cottagers make their way to Old Trafford.

Obi’s absence represents a blow to the Under-18s and Adam Lawrence, who will now have to look at the likes of James Scanlon and Gabriele Biancheri to come up with the goods.
