United locked in transfer tussle for teenage wonderkid who’s ignited a firestorm among PL’s elite clubs – report

Manchester United are reportedly one of a number of Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Hearts’ teenage sensation at Keir McMeekin.

United’s transfer policy shift

Since assuming operational control of United in February last year, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has emphasised a radical change in the club’s transfer policy.

United have moved on from primarily signing already-established superstars to now snapping up gems that can be nurtured to potentially become world-class.

Over the past few months, the Red Devils have brought in starlets like Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Enzo Kana-Biyik and Diego Leon.

In today’s market of inflated fees, clubs are scrambling for promising talents, and United appear firmly in the mix for McMeekin.

United battling to sign McMeekin

Edinburgh News reports, “Manchester City and Manchester United are competing to sign teenage Hearts midfielder Keir McMeekin along with Brighton and Hove Albion.”

“The Edinburgh News has learned that City and others have now lodged offers with the Tynecastle hierarchy, with Liverpool also scouting McMeekin following his rapid rise through the Riccarton youth academy.”

The news outlet notes that McMeekin has yet to make a decision on his future. He has already toured Manchester City’s facilities, with Guardiola’s side eager to entice him through their top-class amenities.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Hearts have offered the 15-year-old an “attractive contract offer”, which he will be able to sign once he turns 16. Determined to oversee his continued development, Hearts have moved to offer him lucrative terms.

English clubs are keen to secure his services straight away on a scholarship deal.

McMeekin has already had sessions with the Hearts first team, and it is believed he remains committed to the club for now.

There is no sign of an official offer from United, though if his future points away from Hearts, swift action will certainly be required.
