United legend’s omission from top football honours draws furious public reaction from brother

The brother of Ryan Giggs wasted no time in expressing his dissatisfaction after the Manchester United icon was freshly snubbed for a Premier League Hall of Fame nomination.

Giggs snubbed for Premier League Hall of Fame

On Monday, the Premier League announced a fresh list of former players who have been shortlisted to be the latest inductees in the Hall of Fame.

The list contains seven former United stars, all of whom lined up with Giggs during their playing days.

These ex-United players include Patrice Evra, Teddy Sheringham, Gary Neville, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Michael Owen.

The absence of Giggs’ name was again conspicuous, despite his status as the league’s most decorated player and third-highest appearance maker.

He boasts 13 Premier League titles and remains the competition’s all-time assist leader with 162.

Giggs’ brother, Rhodri, reacted angrily to the snub and voiced his frustration on social media.

Following the Premier League’s announcement of the nominees, Rhodri shared a video showcasing Giggs in his prime.

He captioned the video with the message, “13 premier league league medals and countless goals and the record number of premier league assists. #TheShamHallOfFame.”

Giggs’ repeated omissions have fueled speculation that they are tied to the scandals that have dogged him and damaged his reputation over the years.

Interestingly, the United legend and his brother have endured a strained relationship ever since Giggs’ affair with Rhodri’s wife was exposed. In 2020, the former Wales international was arrested on suspicion of assault, charges he consistently denied. He was eventually cleared in 2023 after his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville, withdrew from a retrial.

Giggs has not been able to make a return to football since he vacated his role as boss of the Wales national team.

At present, he operates more quietly behind the scenes in his role as director of football at Salford City.
