Midfielder wanted by United tells his club and agents exactly where he stands on Old Trafford move – report

Conor Gallagher’s latest transfer position has been revealed, even as the Atletico Madrid midfielder continues to be linked with a potential future move to Manchester United.

United planning to reinforce midfield in January

United failed to address their midfield department during the summer transfer window, instead choosing to bolster the attack and goalkeeper position.

However, it remains abundantly clear that the Red Devils are in urgent need of additions in the middle of the park and it’s believed plans are already underway to sort this out in January.

United considered a move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba but shelved the idea once they learned of his hefty price tag.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that during the closing stages of the window, United tested the waters with a loan enquiry for Gallagher, though he was also being courted by other Premier League sides.

However, Atletico made it clear that they had no desire to sanction a loan exit, especially without the inclusion of an obligation to make the transfer a permanent one at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

United have been tipped to try again for the England international in January but it appears they will be disappointed.

Gallagher makes transfer stance clear

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Gallagher is not keen on parting ways with Atletico despite speculation over his future.

AS claim, “There was speculation in England that several Premier League clubs were pursuing him, although the Atlético Madrid player has always said his intention is to succeed at Atlético Madrid.”

“Gallagher conveyed the same idea to his manager and the club’s directors: he wants to stay and become an important player in Madrid.”

The report adds that Diego Simeone has also made it clear that he wishes to continue working with Gallagher.

Atletico value the 25-year-old at €40m. His current terms with the La Liga giants expire in 2027, so there is no rush to sell.
