United legend gives huge public backing to Amorim and claims things can “turn around very soon”

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has publicly backed the club’s new manager Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils have had a tumultuous season to date as they sit 13th in the Premier League table.

Erik ten Hag was sacked at the end of October and Ruben Amorim was brought in to replace him. It is fair to say that his start has been far from ideal with five losses in the club’s last six Premier League games at Old Trafford.

Giggs, now a co-owner and director of football at Salford City, has torn into his former side’s decision-making but placed a vote of confidence in Amorim in quotes carried by The Manchester Evening News.

“Like any business, recruitment needs to be right and hasn’t been for the last ten years. We’ve just made poor decision after poor decision,” Giggs said.

Nonetheless, the Welshman, who was interim manager for four games in 2014 and then an assistant coach at the club under Louis van Gaal, is placing his faith in Amorim.

“We’re in a bad place at the moment but, first of all, I have to say I actually really like the manager. Given a chance and given time, Amorim will bring success back.”

Giggs claimed that it is impossible to properly judge the Portuguese manager yet and that he needs three or four windows to bring in the type of players that fit his specific style.

“If we get the right players in and the manager gets time, we will be OK. But at the moment, we are miles off it. We’re nowhere near – a long, long way behind – but it can soon turn around.”

The club’s all-time appearance maker has also recently spoken out on Marcus Rashford’s future.

He claimed that the 27 year old must return to playing with freedom and enjoyment to get back to his lethal best.

Amorim and United will next be in action when they travel to North London to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
