United in line to receive €50m as Saudi club make insane bid for academy graduate – report

Much has been made about Ruben Amorim’s failure to integrate academy graduates into his Manchester United lineup. Amorim has not started any academy player in the Premier League this season. Kobbie Mainoo, who established himself as a regular for club and country before the Portuguese’s arrival, has been handed nine substitute appearances in the league. The United head coach’s approach raises plenty of question marks over the futures of several academy stars at Carrington. At the same time, previous academy graduates are shining away from the Theatre of Dreams. Mason Greenwood enjoying prolific run at Marseille Last year, United permanently parted ways with Mason Greenwood, selling him to Olympique de Marseille in a deal worth £26.6m (€30.4m). The Englishman immediately rediscovered his confidence and goalscoring touch in the south of France. He led Marseille to Champions League qualification in his maiden season and finished the campaign as joint-top scorer in Ligue 1. This term, he has bagged 11 goals and four assists in 19 appearances across all competitions so far. Now, his form has caught the attention of Saudi Arabia.  Marseille receive staggering bid for ex-Manchester United forward According to Fichajes, Neom Sports Club have submitted an offer of €100 million for Greenwood. The Saudi Pro League outfit reportedly want to “finalise” his signing “as soon as possible”.  The Spanish outlet claim Marseille are reluctant to lose the versatile forward as they intend to make him the leading face of their project at Orange Vélodrome. However, they might find it difficult to resist such a proposal.  Neom SC’s alleged bid should also pique the interest of figures at Old Trafford, as United inserted a significant sell-on clause into the deal, thought to be around 50 per cent. The report states: “If the offer is accepted, both Marseille and United would receive €50m each.” However, it is worth nothing that Fabrizio Romano has suggested that United would receive half of the profit Marseille generate from Greenwood’s sale. In that case, a €100m sale would help the Mancunians earn around €35m.
