United in dreamland as Euro club decide to accept €30m bid for midfield powerhouse valued at €70m last year – report

Manchester United are reportedly tempted to sign a Brazilian midfielder as a replacement for Casemiro. The veteran Brazilian, who remains United’s best defensive midfielder, will be departing Old Trafford at the end of the season after the club decided against offering the ageing star a new contract. In recent weeks, United have been strongly linked with Brazil internationals Bruno Guimaraes and Joao Gomes. Now, a report in Italy suggests the Red Devils have reignited their interest in another Samba midfielder. Manchester United keen on signing Ederson According to Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Ederson from Atalanta. United’s interest in Ederson began even before they signed Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024. However, Atalanta’s high asking price proved to be a stumbling block for the 26-year-old’s suitors in previous transfer windows. It is understood that the Serie A side’s asking price for the combative South American was between €60m and €70m last summer. Now, they are willing to open negotiations at around €30m, a massive 50 percent discount.  Ederson, who is known for his strong tackles, ball retention, and relentless work rate, will enter the final year of his contract in Bergamo ahead of next season. With a renewal not in sight, Atalanta have little option but to cash in on their star performer.  It is claimed United have emerged as a “significant contender” to sign the Brazil international as they are “forced” to find Casemiro’s replacement. Casemiro advocates signing of fellow countryman Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Casemiro has recommended United to sign Guimaraes. The Newcastle United captain is highly admired at Old Trafford for his leadership qualities and athleticism. United have reportedly already made “informal contacts” with his representatives. However, Newcastle are likely going to make it very difficult for United or any other suitor to sign the 28-year-old Brazilian.
