United hoping to extend sensational away day record at happy hunting ground

Manchester United travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham, aiming to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after last weekend’s disappointing 1-3 loss at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Red Devils certainly have the bragging rights in this fixture as they have played a total of 89 times with United coming out on top on 57 occasions.

The Cottagers have won 14 and there have been 18 draws in total.

Here are three storylines to look forward to.

United’s wonderful record at Craven Cottage

The Red Devils have hardly been the best of travellers as of late but they do maintain a very pleasing record at Craven Cottage.

A late winner by Bruno Fernandes last season was required to take the three points but the Red Devils have found the West London stadium a happy hunting ground lately.

“Manchester United are unbeaten in eight league visits to Craven Cottage, winning the last seven in a row and drawing the other.”

In fact, the last time Fulham won against United at their own stadium was in 2009 as they crushed an injury-depleted side 3-0.

Horrible recent United record in London

While Ruben Amorim’s side have been very good at tonight’s opponents, they have been very poor in the nation’s capital.

The last visit, a trip to Arsenal a couple of weeks ago in the FA Cup, ended up in a penalty shootout win but that was a rare happy away day for United’s travelling fans.

They have lost 10 times in their last 17 Premier League visits to the capital.

This season they have already been defeated 2-0 at the Emirates, 2-1 at West Ham United and drawn 0-0 at Crystal Palace.

Ruben Amorim looking to avoid unwanted record

United’s 39 year old boss has had huge success in his relatively young career already.

He has had successful spells at Casa Pia, SC Braga and Sporting Lisbon.

His start to his Old Trafford career has not gone as swimmingly though.

If United lose tonight, it will be their seventh under Amorim and the Portuguese manager has never lost as many games in any league season in his managerial career.

With his side’s irregular form, it is likely they will lose at least one more this season but he will hope that will not be this evening, as his team desperately need the three points.

Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
