Manchester United’s pursuit of Internacional striker Ricardo Mathias has taken a dramatic twist. The Red Devils have spread their network across the globe as they search for the next big talent in football. The Premier League giants are now working to sign younger players with the potential to be world class in low-cost deals. The move represents a low-risk, high-reward strategy that also suits United’s finances. The Red Devils have recently followed this blueprint to secure the signatures of Sekou Kone, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon. A previous report from The Peoples Person stated that the English giants already have their eyes on Mathias as a potential option to upgrade their attack. A superstar in the making Mathias joined Internacional’s youth ranks in 2022 from Ferroviaria, before breaking into the senior side last year. The 19 year old was so impressive that he appeared on United’s radar, who sent scouts to watch him live earlier this year. The 6’4” striker knows his way to goal and has scored six times already in 31 appearances this season. Mathias was wanted by Al-Nassr this summer, but the Brazilian club reportedly turned down a €13 million offer as they wanted €20 million to let him go. Despite monitoring the Brazilian, the Red Devils are yet to submit a concrete offer for the player. However, a recent update on the situation could tempt the English giants to finally make a move. Internacional ready to let Mathias go According to reports in Brazil, as relayed by Sport Witness, Internacional have softened their stance on Mathias’ future and are now ready to let him leave for just €7 million. The Brazilian side is under threat of relegation and is keen to avoid a financial collapse if they fail to avoid the drop. Internacional have subsequently decided to sacrifice the teenage striker to address the situation. As such, the South American club has made the player available for a nominal fee, which will be music to the ears of the Old Trafford hierarchy. Despite investing a fortune in their attack this summer, United remain on the hunt for further attacking additions, and Mathias’ situation will certainly tempt them. Final Thoughts United spent around £72 million in the summer of 2023 to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a bid to address their goalscoring woes. However, the Dane turned out to be a disappointment and is currently on loan at Napoli. Meanwhile, the Red Devils also invested approximately £74 million to secure the signature of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig this summer, but the Slovenian has endured a slow start at Old Trafford. As such, the Premier League giants could be tempted to turn to Mathias to strengthen the No. 9 position in 2026. The young Brazilian has the physicality to cope with the rigours of the Premier League and could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business in a few years.
