United fans have made their thoughts crystal clear on the future of under-fire manager Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is already under immense pressure and the season is just four games old.

Poor record

The Portuguese coach has seen just eight wins in 31 Premier League matches since taking over in November 2024.

Amorim did reach the final of the Europa League but lost the last game versus Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 in Bilbao.

His side have collected just four points from their four opening matches, their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Therefore, The Peoples Person asked their readers in a poll, how long should Amorim be given to turn it around at the club?

Ran out of faith

35% of fans voted that he should not be given any more time at the club and the most prudent action would be to cut the club’s losses now as he is a bad fit for United.

Amorim’s results have certainly left a lot to be desired and his rigidness to sticking to a 3-4-3 has certainly irked numerus fans.

Nonetheless, after a meeting between Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the manager this week, it seems he will have more time to right the wrongs of his tenure to date.

Thin ice

24% of those polled believe that Amorim deserves a little bit more time but that there must be a marked improvement in results over the next three to five matches.

That would take United up to the international break in October more or less and they would face Chelsea, Brentford, Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion in that time.

Were United to continue their struggles in all of those matches, serious pressure would certainly be building on Amorim.

13% of supporters demanded that Amorim would be safe if he can steer his side into the top half by Christmas.

United currently sit 14th in the league but with the season being so young, they could catapult up the table quite quickly with two or three wins on the bounce.

Ineos reportedly believe the squad they have built is good enough for European football, so it is likely they would view this objective as reasonable.

Not the problem

12% of fans believe that Amorim deserves at least another 12 months as the current problems are not his fault.

Whilst Amorim has had to take over an incredibly unenviable situation at a time of massive flux at the club, it is perhaps unfair to claim he isn’t at least part of the problem as manager.

Europe

9% of fans believe that Amorim simply must have European football at the end of the season to save his job.

With the investment this summer and only focusing on domestic football this season, it seems a fair ask.

Finally, 7% of readers feel that Amorim’s job should be safe as long as he ensures a finish in the top half this season.

This would be an improvement on last year’s 15th place but it seems unlikely that it would be enough to secure his job into 2026/2027 from the owners’ perspective.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
