United fan Littler targeting darting immortality
Friday 03 January 2025 12:10
Everyone at Manchester United is wishing Luke Littler the very best of luck in Friday night’s PDC World Darts Championship final.
The 17-year-old is an avid United fan and bidding to become his sport’s youngest-ever world champion when he takes on three-time winner Michael van Gerwen at London’s Alexandra Palace from 19:30 GMT this evening.
Littler memorably burst onto the scene with his performances in his debut appearance at the same competition last year, and made it all the way to the final, before being edged out by current world number-one Luke Humphries.
Luke Littler defeated Stephen Bunting – a passionate Liverpool fan – in the semi-finals on Thursday.
The teenager, from Warrington, has since enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months, and become a household name, while establishing himself as one of the top players in his sport.
Littler has won 10 senior titles on the Professional Darts Corporation this year and notably celebrated his maiden major honour upon winning the Premier League Darts series in May.
The world number four, as of November, also recently claimed the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award, while finishing second in the running for the main prize behind another Red in Olympian Keely Hodgkinson.
A triumph on Friday evening would be his greatest success yet and, if the prodigious talent does prevail, he may harbour plans of bringing the trophy back to Old Trafford.
As a boyhood United fan, Littler has been a welcome guest at the Theatre of Dreams and paid a special visit to Carrington last January, when he watched a training session, received a signed shirt from Alejandro Garnacho and threw some arrows with Christian Eriksen and Harry Maguire!

🎯 My Carrington Tour | Last January, darts wonderkid Luke Littler was a special guest at United training…
During his trip to our base – which you can watch in the footage from above – the darts sensation also caught up with MUTV’s Ben Ibson and spoke of his dream to parade silverware in M16 in the near future, saying: “Hopefully, I can win the world championship or even a major trophy this year – one of the five or six majors that are on offer – and take it to Old Trafford.”
Here’s to that, Luke! We’re proud of your journey so far and right behind you tonight.
