United enter whirlwind battle to sign star PL winger as Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern, and PSG express interest – report

Manchester United’s summer transfer plans are appearing to take form, with the club looking to sign Kaoru Mitoma.

With Marcus Rashford appearing increasingly likely to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season and both Antony and Jadon Sancho out on loan, Man United will surely be looking to increase their squad depth on the wing.

Several wingers have already been linked to United ahead of the summer transfer window, including Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo and Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao, who achieved significant success under United manager Ruben Amorim when he still led the Portuguese club.

Now, it appears as if the club’s interest has been shifted to Brighton & Hove Albion winger Mitoma. Still, Brighton don’t seem to be willing to lose of the Japanese winger without a fight.

“According to the latest from sources close to the situation, Brighton are now closing in on a new contract for star winger Kaoru Mitoma, as they hope to tie him down to a new deal valid until 2030,” CaughtOffside reported today.

“Sources have also told CaughtOffside that Mitoma has interest from Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as from European giants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, while Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr have also previously made efforts to sign him.”

“Mitoma is understood to be valued at around €55m by Brighton, and they should soon be in a strong position over the 27-year-old’s future,” the article concluded.

In 28 Premier League appearances this season, Mitoma has scored seven goals and produced three assists. He has averaged 1.1 key passes per game. (Sofascore)

This isn’t the first time that United have been linked with the Brighton winger, however.

In December, United were believed to be considering Mitoma as a potential candidate to replace Rashford, although no deal was concluded.

Of course, even if United are serious about Mitoma, it could prove challenging for the club to sign him ahead of a huge host of competitors.

Unless the demand for Mitoma wanes as the transfer window approaches, it may be best for United to pass over him for an alternative target. After all, with so many elite clubs expressing an interest in him, Mitoma’s expected €55m valuation is unlikely to remain static once a heated transfer race gets underway.
