United could still keep attacker at the club against Amorim’s wishes with INEOS yet to take final call – report

Manchester United are yet to decide what to do with Rasmus Hojlund, as the club focuses on trying to recruit another attacking midfielder.

Matheus Cunha has been confirmed as the first signing of the summer, with talks ongoing with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.

After that, player sales will be conducted, and only then will a new striker be recruited. So far, things have not gone according to plan with Liam Delap heading to Chelsea and Viktor Gyokeres poised to join Arsenal as per reports.

Victor Osimhen could also be heading back to Galatasaray, and the Red Devils could be left scrambling for backup options at the end of the window, with Dusan Vlahovic earmarked as a potential option.

Hojlund’s future up in the air

As per ESPN, United’s current No.9 has held talks with the club to understand where his future lies, with Inter Milan touted as a possible destination.

There is loan interest from other clubs as well, but with United’s striker search not exactly working out so far, all options remain on the table.

The report mentions that the Denmark international could stay on in the event a proper centre-forward cannot be recruited, while only a season-long loan could also be sanctioned, which could help him regain confidence.

“Manchester United are yet to make a decision on Rasmus Højlund’s future, sources have told ESPN, with all options on the table ahead of the summer transfer window.

“Sources have told ESPN that Højlund’s representatives had conversations with United chiefs last week about their plans for the Denmark international.

“They have fielded calls from a number of clubs — including Inter Milan — who have asked to be kept informed about developments.

Rasmus Hojlund could still end up staying at United

“United, according to sources, are not ruling anything out, including keeping Højlund as part of the squad or sanctioning a season-long loan. Sources have told ESPN that Højlund’s future will depend heavily on whether another striker arrives before next season.”

This indicates that a sale might not be a foregone conclusion, as thought earlier due to his dismal performances last season.

Rasmus Hojlund managed a meagre four goals in the Premier League in the whole of last season, while his overall play was also heavily criticised.

There have been reports stating how disappointed Amorim was with him and how he wants him gone. But a permanent exit might be easier said than done, especially with the terms United are asking for in their negotiations with Inter.
