United confirm role change for Jean Claude-Blanc after he stepped down as director of the club

Manchester United have confirmed that Jean-Claude Blanc will assume a new position after stepping down as director of the club.

Earlier today, it was revealed via a Companies House filing that Blanc has had his role as United director terminated.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus chief was appointed to the United board last year after Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his minority takeover.

Blanc was named interim CEO of United following Richard Arnold’s exit and served in this capacity until Omar Berrada arrived after his gardening at Manchester City expired.

In September, Blanc was appointed to the boards of the European Club Association and UEFA’s Club Competitions Board of Administration—appointments that have resulted in a shift in his responsibilities at Old Trafford.

Having left his position as a director at United, Blanc will continue to be involved in the running of the club as chief of international football relations and special advisor to the board.

He will focus on United’s international relationships with FIFA, UEFA and the European Club Association.

An official club statement read, “Jean-Claude Blanc has stepped down from his position as a director of Manchester United Football Club, however he will continue to have an active role in the management of the club in his new position as chief of international football relations and special advisor to the board.”

The 62-year-old will also remain as CEO of Ineos Sport.

While changes continue to unfold off the pitch, United’s on-field struggles persist, with their latest setback coming on Sunday in a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park.

The result left the Red Devils in 14th place in the Premier League. United are on course to have their worst ever Premier League season in terms of points tally.

Ruben Amorim’s men are back in action on Thursday when they host Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.
