United can achieve unreal 2025-26 season due to summer signing “settling the team down nicely”, says predecessor

Ben Foster has weighed in on what he believes is a realistic target for Manchester United this season, while also praising a summer signing who has helped settle the team down. Following an underwhelming 2024–25 campaign in which United missed out on European football, the Red Devils were in desperate need of a resurgence. They had to bounce back and do so in emphatic fashion. Yet with just two wins from their opening seven fixtures this term, many feared it was shaping up to be another disappointing season. Then came October and with it, a turning point. Three consecutive wins and two draws later, United’s fortunes have shifted. The team finally seems to have clicked. And while Bryan Mbeumo, the Premier League’s October Player of the Month, and Ruben Amorim, the Premier League October Manager of the Month, have dominated the headlines, one player who deserves a special mention is Senne Lammens. Lammens has been nothing short of a revelation Lammens’ arrival has transformed United’s style of play. His superior goalkeeping has worked wonders for the backline. He has changed the mood entirely. The defence now looks sharper, calmer, and far more assured. Suddenly, crosses into the box no longer feel like penalties. Panic has given way to composure. You can see defenders trusting the man behind them again. It is no coincidence that his introduction coincided with United’s current five‑game unbeaten run. Even Foster, who initially doubted whether Lammens would hit the ground running at Old Trafford, has changed his tune. Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, the former United keeper admitted: “I think the goalie has settled them down nicely, to be fair.” Foster went on to reflect on United’s recent improvement: “I think they’ve just settled down into a starting 11 that kind of works a little bit.” He then revealed what he considers an “unreal” ending for United’s 2025–26 season: “If they get top four this season, it is an unreal season.” Foster’s assessment is hard to argue with Lammens has been revolutionary, living up to the hype of being the next Thibaut Courtois. An upgrade on both André Onana and Altay Bayındır, his presence between the sticks has given United a genuine chance of returning to Champions League football. And if they do, it will be nothing short of an unreal season.
