United “breaking off talks” after latest offer for 25yo falls short, time running out to find a solution – report

Exiled Manchester United star Antony’s future has continued to dominate headlines for almost the entire summer window.

He was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford once Ruben Amorim came in, and eventually departed on loan to Real Betis in January.

The Brazilian enjoyed one of his best spells of form at the Villamarin Stadium, netting nine times in just 26 games, three short of the goals he had tallied at United in almost three seasons.

Not only that, but the 25-year-old also registered as many assists (five) as he had managed in his United career.

Antony to Betis saga

Naturally, the Spanish side wanted to bring the ex-Ajax star back, but all their offers have fallen short of United’s asking price of €40 million.

Their latest offer of €25 million and 50 per cent of the profit of a future sale has been rejected by INEOS, who are demanding an outright sale.

As per ABC, Betis are unable to go any further and as a result talks between both clubs have broken down. Whether they resume before the window closes will be interesting to see.

“Betis and Manchester United have halted negotiations for Antony’s signing. The reason is that the Betis club’s proposal was rejected by the English club, which insists on an outright sale for an amount close to 40 million euros, something unaffordable for the Betis club.

Talks have broken off

“The player’s high salary would also have to be fully covered by Betis, something that doesn’t fit within their financial parameters. Thus, the growing optimism of recent hours in these negotiations has come to a halt, and now the parties are giving themselves a break after leaving the table and breaking off talks.

“This breakdown in negotiations is common in this type of transaction, especially at the end of the transfer window, but now the ball is in United’s court with a player who takes up a large salary and doesn’t want to play for them.”

The La Liga side will now be banking on United’s desperation to sell, and will be hoping they come back to the negotiating table to try and find a way forward.

Antony only has his eyes on a move to Betis, which is why he rejected a move to Fenerbahce despite the Turkish side being willing to accept United’s demands.
