Spanish club takes significant step towards sealing late deal for United defender Amorim is desperate to shift – report

Elche have taken a big step towards completing a swoop for Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia.

Elche keen on signing Malacia

United are looking to offload Malacia before the close of the summer transfer window on Monday, September 1. He is a member of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ – which consists of players who have been banished from the first team and no longer have a future at the club.

Malacia joined United in the summer of 2022 as Erik ten Hag’s first summer signing but his progress was hampered by a serious knee injury, which ruled him out of action for a year and a half.

Once he returned to action, Ten Hag had been sacked and Amorim named as his replacement. Amorim’s preference for wing-backs saw Malacia struggle for a defined role in the team. The Netherlands international only managed seven appearances under Amorim before he was shipped off to PSV Eindhoven on loan during the January transfer window.

PSV had the option of making Malacia’s stay a permanent one but they opted against it and he returned to United.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Elche are working on a deal to snap up Malacia on loan. Ligue 1 giants Lille were also mentioned as an interested party in the defender.

Now, an update on the situation has emerged and it looks like Elche are prepared to advance their pursuit of Malacia.

Elche step up Malacia chase

According to The Athletic’s Mark Critchley and Guillermo Rai, Elche have opened talks with United for Malacia.

“Elche are in talks with Manchester United over a deal for Tyrell Malacia.”

“The deal will most likely be a loan but the Spanish side say they are still evaluating the structure of a potential agreement.”

If Elche seal a deal for Malacia, he would not arrive as their first signing at left-back.

The Spanish outfit bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of Leo Petrot from Saint-Étienne earlier this summer and have additionally relied on Germán Valera to fill that role when required.
