Manchester United has achieved gold-level BOG STANDARD charter accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to supporting male fans living with incontinence.

The BOG STANDARD charter was established, in partnership with Prostate Cancer UK and phs Group, to improve public access to incontinence support and enable men to dispose of waste with dignity.

Thousands of men are currently living with incontinence across the UK, of which 78% are too anxious to leave the house because of limited access to disposal facilities and sanitary products when they are away from home.

Working directly to achieve the gold BOG STANDARD with phs Group as part of their Back in the Game campaign, the club has installed incontinence bins in washrooms at Old Trafford. The hygiene waste collected in the bins will be sent to Energy from Waste facilities via the phs LifeCycle Strategy and used to power homes, hospitals and schools.

The gold BOG STANDARD plaque is located next to washrooms across Old Trafford.

Back in the Game aims to bring male fans living with incontinence, who previously couldn’t attend games due to limited or lack of onsite facilities, the confidence to return to their club and support their team in-person again.

In addition to the installation of the incontinence bins, the club are also supporting an NHS England initiative by adding P-Wave screens to urinals at Old Trafford. The screens display the words, “Blood in your pee? Contact your GP practice” – encouraging fans to be aware of possible signs of bladder, kidney, or prostate cancer.

The introduction of P-Wave screens and incontinence bins at Old Trafford form part of several initiatives in support of men’s physical and mental health.

This summer, Manchester United welcomed Andy’s Man Club to Old Trafford to facilitate free weekly peer support sessions helping men struggling with life challenges to talking openly about their mental health.

Initiatives like these allow the club to raise awareness of important health-related issues that disproportionally impact men and help them through the challenges they face in their lives.
