The Portuguese newspaper, however, claims that United are slightly ahead of Liverpool at this stage.  Michael Carrick reportedly wants to transform his side’s midfield and considers the 21-year-old as one of the players capable of helping reshape that area of the squad. It is understood that Liverpool remain attentive to the situation and could move if United fail to make progress.
