Manchester United fans are about to be swept away by a wave of nostalgia as talk of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s possible return intensifies. The Red Devils parted ways with Ruben Amorim this week and the search is on for his successor. While Darren Fletcher is set to be in charge for the next two games, INEOS are reportedly looking for a caretaker manager to help them see out the season. The English giants are likely to prefer a Premier League-proven name, especially since they are now sixth in the league table after 20 games, only three points behind Liverpool in fourth. A top-four place, as such, is still up for grabs. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that Solskjaer is ready to take charge of the first team for the rest of the season. An impressive first stint at Old Trafford When the Baby-Faced Assassin took charge of United as a caretaker manager in December 2018, the club was in turmoil after a turbulent start to the season under Jose Mourinho. Solskjaer steadied the ship and did such a fabulous job that he was offered the full-time role before the end of the campaign. The Red Devils managed two back-to-back top-three finishes under the Norwegian in his two complete seasons in charge, the first time it had happened since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The English giants narrowly missed out on silverware as well, losing the Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties in the 2020/21 season. Unfortunately, that would be the start of Ole’s downfall, as he had to vacate his position in November 2021. By then, the former striker had been in charge of 168 games, winning 91 of them. While his first stint ended on a sour note, it now appears that Solskjaer is nearing a chance at redemption at the Theatre of Dreams. Solskjaer set for talks According to journalist Marco Alcarez, Solskjaer is scheduled to hold talks with the United hierarchy on Tuesday over a possible caretaker role until the end of the season. “𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄: Ole Gunnar Solskjær will meet Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada and the Man Utd hierarchy TODAY to discuss becoming caretaker manager until the summer. OGS wants the role, and several key figures inside the club see him as the leading candidate.” The Norwegian already has experience of managing in the Premier League and his knowledge of the club and its workings makes him a suitable candidate for the job as well. Meanwhile, a separate update from journalist Rob Dorsett states that the Red Devils have already begun talking to candidates for the caretaker role. Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Fletcher are among the names being considered. Final Thoughts A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person also named Ruud van Nistelrooy as an option for the caretaker role along with the aforementioned trio, but suggested that Solskjaer is the players’ choice for the job. After another underwhelming managerial stint, it is perhaps time for a Sir Alex Ferguson pupil to take over the reins at Old Trafford and steer the club in the right direction. Fans of the Baby-Faced Assassin, however, will insist that Ole has unfinished business at the Theatre of Dreams, and that he is the right man for the job. 🚨💣𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄: Ole Gunnar Solskjær will meet Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada and the Man Utd hierarchy TODAY to discuss becoming caretaker manager until the summer.
