Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen was full of praise for Manchester United loanee Harry Amass after he netted his first professional goal over the weekend. Amass scores first professional goal Since joining Wednesday on loan during the summer transfer window, Amass has enjoyed gradual progress, despite the club’s problems off the pitch. Due to Wednesday’s financial troubles, United are covering the costs of Amass’ loan spell, including his full wages. The defender has emerged as a key player for the Owls, making 11 starts since sealing the temporary switch from Old Trafford. Amass scored his first senior goal on Saturday as Wednesday slipped to a 3-1 loss at the hands of Southampton. The England youth international fired a long-range strike past goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu in the first half of proceedings at St Mary’s Stadium. Speaking to the Sheffield Star [via Manchester Evening News], Pedersen emphasised that Amass is not the same player he was when he joined them weeks ago. Pedersen waxes lyrical about Amass Pedersen told the newspaper, “The young man who came into Sheffield Wednesday and the young man who just left the stadium today are two different humans.” “And they are two different players. His progression has been amazing and, for a young player like Harry, he came with a lot of energy, but then the Championship always come knocking with three games in a row.” “It is tough, but he keeps on playing. This week, against West Brom, against Norwich, against Southampton, he showed against three good teams that he can compete with them. It’s not only that he can compete but he can be dominant in some phases.” “So I think he has done a big development as a player and what I see is a young man who has started to have a big knowledge about himself as a human – who he wants to be, who he doesn’t want to be.” Pedersen continued, “He has started to control when his mood comes down to be more stable. I see a young guy who has started to be physically stronger. He runs more, he has started to sprint more, he has more accelerations and he starts to have smaller breaks in the game. He has started to be better between the phases of the game.” “I like him. He is a good boy, he is a good player and he loves to learn. We love to have him here.” Wednesday currently lie at the bottom of the Championship table after 15 games played. They are next in action on Sunday, 23 November, when they welcome Sheffield United to Hillsborough.
