Travelling squad for semi-final first leg

Manchester United are taking 26 players to Bilbao for the Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Club.

Thursday’s huge 20:00 BST kick-off presents the Reds with the opportunity to continue our unbeaten run in the competition, in the quest to earn a return trip to San Mames for the final on 21 May.

A side currently fourth in La Liga, with an impressive home record, stand in United’s way but the good news is Matthijs de Ligt and Amad have both made the flight.

Whether the pair, who returned from injury lay-offs to participate in Wednesday’s open training at Carrington, will be named in the actual matchday squad is yet to be confirmed.

A larger group has been selected as there is due to be a session locally on Friday morning, which will feature youngsters, including Chido Obi and Sekou Kone, who are not eligible to play in the Europa League. 

Altay Bayindir is available again, while Tyler Fredricson, who made his senior debut in the recent loss to Wolves, is included, along with wide players Bendito Mantato and Jaydan Kamason.

DEFENDERS: Harry Amass, Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Jonny Evans, Tyler Fredricson, Jaydan Kamason, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro.

MIDFIELDERS: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Sekou Kone, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Manuel Ugarte.

FORWARDS: Amad, Bendito Mantato, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Chido Obi.

Athletic Club boss Ernesto Valverde has ruled leading goalscorer Oihan Sancet out of the game, but he could still feature in the return fixture at Old Trafford next week.

Friday’s training session in the Basque Country will begin the preparations for United’s Premier League clash at Brentford on Sunday, before the semi-final second leg in M16.
