“Totally destructive”: INEOS are “furious” with United players’ reaction to dismal start to the season – report

Manchester United’s executive structure are “furious” with the first-team squad after leaks emerged this week of dressing room discontent with Ruben Amorim, according to an explosive update.

A Familiar Tale

The correlation between the Red Devils performing poorly and reports of players expressing doubts about the manager has been almost perfect at Old Trafford over the past decade.

Whether it was Jose Mourinho’s defensive tactics, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s jovial attitude, or Erik ten Hag’s hash approach, there have always been grumblings emerging from the United dressing room.

The latest instalment of this familiar tale came this week after reports revealed players were expressing doubts about Amorim and the dogmatic application of his 3-4-2-1 system.

United have begun the season poorly with three losses, one draw and just one win in the opening five games, including the humiliating defeat to League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Questions, rightly, are being asked of Amorim after he oversaw the club’s worst campaign in the Premier League era last year, with United finishing 15th.

But the Portuguese coach was given a free pass on this dismal showing as he had taken over from Erik ten Hag midseason, without the benefit of a summer transfer window or pre-season to mould his new team in his image.

These caveats no longer apply, however, with over £200 million invested in the market and Amorim receiving the full backing of the club over recruitment decisions, both in terms of inbound and outbound transfers.

If performances and, more importantly, results do not improve immediately, INEOS will be forced to confront a reality they would have not planned for over the summer: the prospect of dismissing Amorim, just one year into his tenure.

But the club’s hierarchy remain steadfast in their support of the 40-year-old coach – and they are intent on not allowing whispers of player’s unhappiness to dictate the situation at Old Trafford, as it often has in the past.

INEOS lay down the law

Graeme Bailey reports for United in Focus (as relayed by CaughtOffside) that INEOS are “furious” about the emergence of leaks this week from the dressing room.

“The one thing the club are furious about is the potential of leaks again, seeing stories about players and squad members not being convinced by Amorim or his tactics.

“The club thought they had really stamped this out, they see it as totally destructive to what they are trying to do. United firmly believe they are building something, but they won’t and can’t allow internal discontent to impact on the club as a whole.”

Whether fans continue to back Amorim is one thing as there is a mountain of evidence to support those who do not. But The Peoples Person believes every member of the fanbase should support the decision to eliminate player power from dictating decisions at the club.

Amorim is responsible for the team’s poor results, but the players are equally, if not more, culpable. None of them should be allowed to dispel their own responsibility by simply pointing the finger at the man above them.
