Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe weighed in on the club’s attacking department. While he believes Benjamin Sesko will eventually make it, he reveals which striker he would consider an update at the moment. The Red Devils spent north of £200 million to revamp their frontline last summer. But while Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are already up and running, Sesko’s settling has been significantly slower, as the Slovenian striker has yet to adjust to his new surroundings. The 23-year-old has only scored twice since he completed his £72 million move from RB Leipzig in August. His settling was also interrupted by an injury he suffered in mid-November, but he has recently returned to action.Lee Sharpe tips Benjamin Sesko to prove his worth at Man UtdThe centre-forward’s form has been a topic of debate among fans and pundits alike. Interestingly, Gary Neville was quick to jump the gun, suggesting that the jury was already out on Sesko. While Sharpe agreed that the Slovenian needs to improve his performance, he still backs him to succeed at United.“I don’t think Sesko has set the world alight,” began the 54-year-old in his exclusive interview with Stretty News in collaboration with NewBettingOffers.co.uk“I understand he’s still pretty young, obviously totally lacking in experience in the Premier League and the paces and physicalities of it. Obviously, being in a new country for him, he’s got a huge environment to deal with. So I definitely think there’s more to come out of him.“I don’t think we should get rid of him straight away, but I think he probably needs a bit of help. “Sesko will eventually score goals. He’s pretty quick. He holds the ball up pretty well at times. I think he sees things early.“He doesn’t try to hold on to the ball too much. I think he plays things pretty simply, which is good. He just needs to get a few more goals, which is the team’s responsibility.”Lee Sharpe pitches for Victor Osimhen & hails Joshua ZirkzeeIf Lee had to choose a striker who would be an upgrade on Sesko, he’d pick Victor Osimhen, who has been on Man Utd’s shortlist for quite some time.“I think Ossimhen has always been mentioned. He would be a really good fit. He’s Physical, scores goals, and can hold the ball up.“It’s difficult to compare people playing in different leagues because nothing’s as tough for a number nine and a goalscorer than the Premier League. But Osimhen would probably be the top of my list.”Man Utd were one of the clubs linked with the Nigerian bomber, but he ended up sealing a permanent transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray, having already spent the previous campaign with the Istanbul-based giants.Lee Sharpe during his playing days at Man Utd (Photo by Simon Bruty/Allsport/Getty Images)But while Lee doesn’t see United realistically spending cash on a new attacker in January, he urges Ruben Amorim to give more space for Joshua Zirkzee, whom he’s a fan of.“While we’ve got Sesko, I’d also like to see Zirkzee get more minutes. I think Zirkzee could be a top, top player.“We have enough options at the club for this season without going to splash out loads of cash on a centre-forward in January for sure.”
