Marcus Rashford left Manchester United this summer on a season-long loan to join Barcelona – and the Catalans reportedly have a €30m option to buy him permanently at the end of the campaign.
The Englishman rose through the ranks at Old Trafford and was once considered one of the club’s most important players.
However, Ruben Amorim’s arrival last November brought about a significant change in the player’s situation at the Theatre of Dreams.
The 27 year old fell out of favour under the Portuguese head coach and was initially sent out on loan to Aston Villa in January. It soon became clear that Rashford had no way back under Amorim, and he subsequently moved to Camp Nou on a temporary deal this summer.
Turning over a new leaf in Spain
Rashford has rediscovered his form since the move, having registered five goals and six assists from 12 appearances across competitions for the LaLiga champions.
The Englishman was on song against Olympiacos in midweek in the Champions League, scoring twice to help Barcelona cruise to a 6-1 victory.
Recent reports suggest that the Blaugrana are pleased with the player’s performances and are planning to trigger the purchase option in his deal.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the matter.
A popular figure in the dressing room
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Romano said: “They are all very happy with all the relationship Rashford has with his team-mates as well.”
“The reputation of Rashford is something that has to be clarified. He is really popular in the dressing room at Barcelona.
“Look at the image after the game of Fermin Lopez scores an attack against Olympiacos, Marcus Rashford, who scored two goals, took the ball and went to Fermin Lopez, telling him, okay, take the ball, because, also, this kind of behaviour is something really appreciated by Barcelona.
“The performance is okay, of course, goals, assists, Rashford is doing very well, very versatile player upfront who can play in several positions, but also important to say, the behaviour, the attitude of Marcus Rashford is really appreciated by Barcelona.
“So, let me say, from what I understand, the feeling internally at Barcelona – internal means board, management, technical staff, the manager and those who work closely with Hansi Flick – is that if Marcus Rashford will continue like this in every single point of view – delivering performances and perfect attitude – he will have very good chances to continue at the club beyond this season.”
Despite his spectacular form, United are unlikely to consider Rashford’s return next summer.
The Red Devils have already invested in a new-look attack this summer, and Amorim’s side have started to find their feet of late.
As such, Rashford’s proposed permanent stay with Barcelona may suit all parties concerned with the forward considering Camp Nou a “dream” destination since childhood.
